Pomp and Circumstance is the kind of small neighborhood restaurant that earns its regulars one pita at a time. Chef James Ahearn — whose Armenian grandmother and Sicilian grandfather show up in almost every dish — opened it in 2019 with FOH partner Melissa Morales, and the two still run the floor themselves. Thirty seats, a hearth oven in front of you, a natural wine list that doesn't try to be impressive. It works.
The Vibe
Brick walls, low light, the smell of bread. The open kitchen means you can watch the pita come out of the oven, which is a better dinner-table show than most restaurants manage. The room is quiet enough for a real conversation — reviewers mention this specifically, which is rarer than it should be in Williamsburg. A Tuesday or Wednesday dinner is the move — the room is at its most relaxed and the staff has time for you. Happy hour runs 4–6:30pm daily: one pita, one dip, one drink for $18, which is a genuinely good deal and the lowest-stakes way to try the place on a first date.
