KCBC is the best brewery taproom in Bushwick — which is both a recommendation and a caveat. It opened in 2016 as the first brick-and-mortar brewery the neighborhood had seen in four decades, and the beer program has earned its reputation: rotating NEIPAs, lagers, fruited sours, imperial stouts, and taproom-only releases that don't show up anywhere else in the city.
The Vibe
The space is a working 5,000-square-foot warehouse with the production brewery fully visible through glass behind the bar. Reclaimed pine, factory-style windows, oak barrels of aging sours stacked above the communal tables, forklifts occasionally rolling through — it reads industrial-raw in a way that's earned rather than designed. On a weekday afternoon it's relaxed, bright, and easy. On a Friday or Saturday night it's loud — genuinely, acoustics-are-a-problem loud. Brick walls and ironwork don't absorb sound; they bounce it. The bar seats sixteen or so and there's sidewalk seating when the weather cooperates.
What to Order
- A flight of four — the right move on a first visit; the range here is wide enough that picking blind is a gamble, and the bartenders know the list cold.
- Whatever taproom-only IPA is rotating — the NEIPAs and hazy imperials are the standout category, and the releases you can't get elsewhere are the reason to come.
- Skip ordering delivery to the table — there's no kitchen, and eating out of takeout containers in a loud warehouse doesn't help a date along.
When to Come
A weekday evening — Tuesday or Wednesday, before 8pm — is when this place actually works for two people. The room is calmer, the bar has open seats, and a conversation is possible. Weekends get packed and loud fast. No reservations; walk in.
The Bottom Line
Great beer in a great-looking room, but the acoustics and communal setup make it a better stop for beer people than a destination for a date.
