Figo il Gelato Italiano

7

Out of 10

The signature Figo — ricotta, caramelized fig, amaretto — is reason enough to detour down Bleecker. Order it in a cone, get the affogato if it's late, and keep walking. Greenwich Village does the rest.

Figo is the kind of gelato shop that makes the detour feel obvious in hindsight. The Bleecker Street location is small, bright, and openly cheerful — green walls, fast-moving line, staff who will hand you sample spoon after sample spoon without flinching. It earns the stop.

The Vibe

Walk-up counter, a few small tables outside if you snag one, otherwise you're eating on the move — which is exactly right for this block. The room is clean and well-lit, not moody, not designed for lingering. It fills up fast on weekends, especially after 9pm when the neighborhood is in full drift.

What to Order

  • Figo — the signature: ricotta, caramelized figs, amaretto. Rich without being cloying, and distinct enough that you'll think about it later.
  • Affogato — vanilla (or your flavor of choice) drowned in a shot of espresso. The move if it's late and you want something that reads like an occasion.
  • Skip the pistachio if you're already getting the Figo — it's good but straightforward next to the more interesting house flavors, and one compelling scoop beats two safe ones.

When to Come

This is a post-dinner stop, not a destination. Slot it in after a West Village or Greenwich Village dinner when you want to keep the night going. It's open until midnight Sunday through Thursday and until 2am on weekends — genuinely useful for a date that's running long in the best way. No reservations, no wait beyond the counter queue.

The Bottom Line

A gelato stop that actually earns the detour — the Figo flavor alone justifies the walk, and the late hours make it the rare dessert option that doesn't require planning around.
