A neighborhood

Greenwich Village

Washington Square energy and old-school New York

Greenwich Village has been a date neighborhood since before dating apps existed. The blocks around Washington Square Park are full of restaurants and bars that have earned their reputations over decades. It's less precious than the West Village, more interesting than Midtown, and the kind of place where a walk after dinner is just as good as dinner itself.

  1. Greenwich Village · Cocktail bar

    Bar Moga

    $$$ · Reviewed August 2026

    A 1920s Taisho jazz bar landed on Houston Street — shochu cocktails, Japanese whiskey flights, and one of the better katsu sandos in the city. Dim, dark, and easy to get into. The kind of bar that swallows your evening whole.

  2. Greenwich Village · Ice cream shop

    Figo il Gelato Italiano

    $ · Reviewed August 2026

    The signature Figo — ricotta, caramelized fig, amaretto — is reason enough to detour down Bleecker. Order it in a cone, get the affogato if it's late, and keep walking. Greenwich Village does the rest.
