A date plan

Gelato and Cornelia St. Candlelight, West Village

Date · West Village · Fun & Playful

A playful West Village evening that moves from natural wine and small plates at an intimate neighborhood bar, to candlelit Italian on one of the city's most romantic streets, and ends with a chocolate fountain and a midnight gelato stroll on Bleecker.

01Drinks

West Village · $$$ · Wine bar · Cocktail bar

Start the night at WEST10WEST, a snug little room on West 10th that feels like someone's exceptionally well-curated living room. The natural wine list is the kind you actually want to talk through with a stranger — or, better yet, someone you're trying to impress. Order a couple of small plates, let the dim lighting do its thing, and let the night feel easy before it even starts.

242 W 10th St Storefront 2, New York, NY 10014

~5 min walk (0.2 mi). From WEST10WEST, head south on West 10th toward Cornelia Street — it's one of the most movie-set-perfect blocks in the whole city. Peek up at the fire escapes and window boxes as you walk. If one of you is a Taylor Swift fan, you already know why this street matters.

02Dinner

West Village · $$$ · Italian restaurant · Bar

Palma has been holding down Cornelia Street since 2001, and it still earns it — ivy creeping up stucco walls, housemade pasta, and a candlelit garden out back that makes every conversation feel more important than it probably is. Request the garden when you book (seriously, don't forget). The organic ingredients and unhurried pacing make this feel less like a reservation and more like someone invited you to their home in Liguria.

28 Cornelia St, New York, NY 10014

~1 min walk (0.1 mi). After dinner, wander west on Bleecker — it's one of those streets that just keeps giving at night, with good window-shopping and people-watching to fill any gaps between courses. Venchi sits right at the corner of Bleecker and Carmine, which technically edges toward the South Village, but it's a short, lovely walk from Cornelia.

03Dessert

West Village · Chocolate shop · Ice cream shop

Cap the night at Venchi on Bleecker, a Turinese chocolate house that has absolutely no business being this charming. Crêpes filled with hazelnut chocolate straight from a fountain, gelato in waffle cones (get the pistachio — trust), and a gold-accented space small enough that you'll be standing close. It's open until midnight on weekends, so take your time.
