The Chocolate Room

6.5

Out of 10

Nearly two decades of homemade chocolate on Court Street, still made in small batches. The brownie sundae is the call. Go after dinner — this is the last stop, not the plan.

Reviewed October 2026

The Chocolate Room has been turning out homemade ice cream, sundaes, and hand-dipped confections on Court Street since 2008, and the things it does well, it does reliably well.

The Vibe

Glass display counters run along the front, loaded with truffles, cookies, and caramel-pecan turtles. Counter seating puts you close enough to watch a blowtorch caramelize a banana. The room is small and café-lit — not candlelight, not date-moody, but not harsh either. It fills up on weekends, especially after 8pm when the neighborhood walks off dinner.

What to Order

  • Brownie sundae — the house move. Dense brownie, house-made chocolate ice cream, hot fudge, fresh whipped cream. This is why you came.
  • Black-bottom butterscotch — the custard underneath cut by a dark chocolate base. Quieter than the sundae and worth ordering if two people want different things.
  • Skip the cake slices to go — the flourless chocolate and layer cake are better in-shop than they travel; the texture suffers.

When to Come

This is an after-dinner stop, not a plan. Fold it into a Carroll Gardens or Cobble Hill evening — dinner first, then walk down Court Street. Weeknights before 9pm are comfortable. Weekends get crowded and the counter can feel rushed.

The Bottom Line

A genuinely good dessert stop — worth the detour if you're already in the neighborhood, but it's punctuation, not the sentence.
