Cocktail bar

Donna

7.5

Out of 10

A worker-owned tropical bar on Cornelia Street, reborn from a Williamsburg original that ran for a decade. Frozen Brancolada, white brick walls, pink banquettes, and cocktails that lean Filipino and Latin — louder in ambition than in volume.

Reviewed September 2026

Donna is the kind of bar that should be hard to pull off — tropical drinks, pan-Latin bar snacks, a worker-owned co-op structure — and yet it doesn't feel like a concept. It feels like a good bar.

The Vibe

White brick, pink banquettes, limewash plaster in graphic geometric shapes, pendant lights made from woven paper and reclaimed embroidery hoops. The room is compact and bright, which sounds like a liability, but the warm materials keep it from feeling clinical. Music runs at conversation level — early in the week you can actually hear each other; Friday after 9 it picks up. The co-op ownership shows in the pace of the place: nothing feels rushed, nobody is turning the table.

What to Order

  • The Brancolada — frozen Fernet Menta, rum, pineapple, coconut. This is the drink that followed Donna from Williamsburg; order it first, before you look at anything else.
  • Pork shoulder and charred onion pupusas — the right move on the food menu, pan-Latin with enough Mediterranean influence to feel specific to this kitchen rather than generic.
  • Skip the chicken tostada — the weakest plate on the bar snack menu; the other small plates are doing more.

When to Come

Wednesday or Thursday, 8pm, after you've already eaten somewhere nearby and want a second stop that becomes the actual night. Happy hour (Mon–Fri, 5–7pm) is a legitimately good deal — $15 cocktails — if you want to make it the first stop instead. Reservations available on Resy; worth grabbing one on weekends.

The Bottom Line

Go to Donna when you want a real bar — one with a point of view on the drinks, a room worth lingering in, and service that isn't trying to move you along.
