Cafe Luxembourg is the kind of restaurant that makes you suspicious — forty years on the same block, still full every night, still not coasting. Ninety seats, loud, and always busy. The zinc bar runs along the west wall, angled so you face both the kitchen pass and the whole brasserie floor — which is the best seat in the house. Weeknights at eight feel like a neighborhood institution; Friday at ten is a different animal, when the post-Lincoln Center crowd pours in and the noise level climbs another notch. What to Order
- French onion soup — an enormous crock of liquified onion and gruyère that arrives barely holdable. Start here, every time.
