~4 min walk (0.2 mi). From Edith Machinist on Rivington, head west and dip down to Broome Street — it's a short, pretty walk through some of the LES's most characterful blocks. Peek into any storefronts that catch your eye along Orchard on the way.

Cross Broome Street to The Ten Bells, a dimly lit, cave-like wine bar that practically invented the LES date-night formula. Order a glass of something natural and a round of oysters — the small plates are made for slow sharing and long conversation. The candlelight does all the heavy lifting.
~6 min walk (0.3 mi). The Ten Bells and Taverna Di Bacco are almost directly across the street from each other on Broome and Ludlow — you'll barely have time to decide who's holding the door.

Finish the afternoon at Taverna Di Bacco, a brick-walled Campanian trattoria on Ludlow where the chef still makes the rounds at every table. The carbonara is the move — rich, unfussy, exactly right — and the Italian wine list is deep enough to keep you there longer than you planned. If the weather cooperates, ask for a seat in the back patio garden.
