A date plan

Tiki Sips and Pasta, East Village

Date · East Village · Fun & Playful · $$

Kick off the afternoon with tropical cocktails and colorful energy at a tiki-inspired hangout, then wind down over rustic Italian pasta and finish with a scoop of something seasonal and sweet.

01Activity & Drinks

East Village · $$ · Wine bar · American restaurant

Pineapple Club is your opening act — a sprawling, technicolor tiki den on E 6th where the cocktails arrive looking like they were designed by a set decorator. Order something with rum and a garnish you can't quite identify, settle into the playful chaos, and let the international small plates keep you grazing. The vibe is loud, fun, and unserious in the best possible way.

509 E 6th St, New York, NY 10009

~7 min walk (0.4 mi). Walking from Pineapple Club to Piccola Strada, cut through the side streets of the East Village — E 6th between Avenues A and B has great people-watching and a few record shops worth peeking into if the mood strikes.

02Dinner

East Village · $$ · Italian restaurant

Piccola Strada is the antidote to everywhere that tries too hard — a quaint, candlelit Italian corner that feels like it's been there forever (in a good way). Classic pastas done with care, a tight wine list, and the kind of old-world atmosphere that makes conversation come easy. Order whatever's handmade that day and split a second plate — you'll want to.

77 E 4th St, New York, NY 10003

~15 min walk (0.7 mi). Piccola Strada to Caffè Panna takes you just west toward Irving Place, which feels noticeably calmer and more residential — a nice gear-shift after dinner. Note that Irving Place technically edges into Gramercy, but Caffè Panna is well worth the short stroll.

03Dessert

East Village · $$ · Ice cream shop · Coffee shop

Caffè Panna is the kind of place you'll plan your next visit before you've finished your first scoop. This Roman-style gelateria on Irving Place rotates seasonal flavors and does an affogato that should be mandatory at the end of every date. The space is small, stylish, and just a little bit precious — in exactly the right way.
