East Village · $$$ · Italian restaurant · Gluten-free restaurant
The Melotti family has been growing rice in Verona since before most Manhattan restaurants were a twinkle in an investor's eye — and this tiny East Village spot is where their harvest lands. The menu is built entirely around their own grain: twelve risottos, plus starters and dessert, all gluten-free and all deeply considered. The room is dim, the lighting is antique, and the sink by the entrance is shaped like a water well — which tells you everything about how seriously these people take the bit.
