Quarters, Tiki, and Pizza in the East Village

Hangout · East Village · Fun & Playful · $

A late-night East Village crawl built for maximum chaos and minimum pretension — think vintage arcade cabinets, a tiki bar dripping with personality, and a late-night pizza landing pad to close it out.

01Activity

East Village · $ · Bar · Video arcade

Start the night with quarters and bragging rights at Barcade, the arcade bar that's been a St. Marks institution since 2014. Twenty-five rotating craft taps mean everyone can grab a pint while someone inevitably rage-quits Donkey Kong. It's loud, it's competitive, and it's absolutely perfect for a group who needs something to do with their hands.

6 St Marks Pl, New York, NY 10003

~11 min walk (0.6 mi). Heading from Barcade to Otto's Shrunken Head, you'll cut east through the St. Marks block — peek into the record stores and tattoo parlors still glowing open. The block doesn't sleep.

02Drinks

East Village · $$ · Bar

From arcade to tiki — Otto's Shrunken Head is the kind of bar that feels like it was designed by someone who had way too much fun. Polynesian kitsch covers every surface, live rock bands shake the walls on weekends, and the tropical cocktails are stiff enough to make you forget you just lost at Pac-Man three times in a row. This place is a vibe in the most unironic sense.

538 E 14th St, New York, NY 10009

~10 min walk (0.5 mi). From Otto's on E 14th, you're heading back south toward 1st Ave for Emmy Squared — heads up, this takes you slightly out of the deep East Village pocket, but it's an easy walk along Avenue A and well worth the journey.

03Food

East Village · $$ · Pizza restaurant · Hamburger restaurant

Cap the night the right way at Emmy Squared, where Detroit-style square pies come out of the oven with those signature lacy, crispy cheese edges. The brick-clad space has more atmosphere than your average late-night slice spot, and the Colony pizza — white sauce, pepperoni, honey — is the kind of thing you'll still be talking about on the way to the subway. Grab the Emmy Burger if someone's feeling bold.
