A date plan

Negronis, Truffle Pasta, Milk Bar, West Village

Date · West Village · Romantic · $$

Start with natural wine and small plates at one of the West Village's coziest bars, move to an intimate Northern Italian room where tableside truffle shaving is practically foreplay, then cap the night with a walk and something sweet and weird from Milk Bar.

01Drinks

WEST10WEST

4.8

West Village · $$$ · Wine bar · Cocktail bar

WEST10WEST is the kind of place that makes you feel like you've been let in on a secret — dim, unhurried, with a natural wine list that gives you something to actually talk about. Order a small plate or two (the seasonal options change, so just ask what's good tonight) and let the room do its thing. Tuesday through Thursday is peak magic here; weekends get a little busier than the vibe deserves.

242 W 10th St Storefront 2, New York, NY 10014

~3 min walk (0.2 mi). From WEST10WEST on W 10th to Osteria Carlina on Hudson, you'll pass through one of the prettiest blocks in the West Village — the kind with the low Federal-style rowhouses and actual gas lanterns. Slow down a little.

02Dinner

West Village · $$$ · Northern Italian restaurant

Osteria Carlina is the real deal — a Turin-born husband-and-wife project with exposed brick, low light, and maybe 30 seats between you and the rest of the world. The agnolotti del plin is a must, but if you want a moment, let the server shave fresh truffles over the angel hair and just watch your date's face. No cocktails here (wine, beer, and vermouth only), which is exactly why you had drinks first.

455 Hudson St, New York, NY 10014

~5 min walk (0.2 mi). Osteria Carlina to Milk Bar takes you down toward Christopher Street — keep an eye out for the little pocket parks and stoops that make this neighborhood feel like it belongs to a different century.

03Dessert

Milk Bar

4.6

West Village · $$ · Dessert shop · Bakery

Milk Bar on Christopher Street is less of a sit-down situation and more of a grab-and-wander — which, after a long dinner, is exactly right. Get the Cereal Milk soft serve with Cornflake Crunch, maybe a slice of Milk Bar Pie to split, and take it outside to the West Village streets. It's the kind of low-key, slightly goofy ending that turns a good date into a great night.
