Order the charcuterie, split something with anchovy in it, and let the lighting do the rest. This is a first-drink situation that has a way of turning into two.
~5 min walk (0.2 mi). From WEST10WEST on W 10th Street to Palma on Cornelia, you're staying deep in the West Village's prettiest pocket — wander down W 10th and hang a left onto Cornelia. That block is one of the most photographed streets in NYC, so pause at the cobblestones and take it in before you sit down.

Palma has been making people fall in love on Cornelia Street since 2001 — ivy-covered garden, exposed brick, and housemade pasta from organic ingredients that actually tastes like someone's grandmother made it. Request the back garden when you book; it's one of the most romantic seats in the entire city. Tables are spaced far enough apart that you can have a real conversation, which is rarer than it should be.
~7 min walk (0.3 mi). Palma to Dante West Village is a straight shot up Hudson Street — stroll north and enjoy the after-dinner quiet of the side streets. Note: Dante West Village is at 551 Hudson, the newer sibling location; don't confuse it with the original Caffe Dante on MacDougal.

Dante West Village is the move when you want the night to keep going but the energy to slow down — velvet banquettes, candlelight, and a negroni that flows straight from a tap behind the bar. The cocktail list runs fifty-plus deep, but the Dante Martini (Ford's Gin, Noilly Prat, a whisper of cedro) is worth the detour. Grab an outdoor terrace seat if the weather cooperates; it's the less chaotic end of the room on a busy night.
