A date plan

Gambas, Truffles, and Soft Serve, West Village

Date · West Village · Romantic

A perfectly sequenced West Village evening — start with natural wine and small plates on Bedford Street, move to candlelit northern Italian pasta with tableside truffle shaving on Hudson, then finish with a scoop of Cereal Milk soft serve and a walk through the cobblestone streets.

01Drinks

West Village · $$ · Wine bar

Thirty seats, warm lighting, and a Mediterranean wine list that champions small family producers and biodynamic bottles you won't find anywhere else. Start with the gambas al ajillo and a glass of Greek moschofilero — it's the kind of opener that makes the whole night feel considered. CARTA opened on Bedford Street in late 2024 and already feels like it's been here forever.

35 Bedford St, New York, NY 10014

~4 min walk (0.2 mi). From CARTA to Osteria Carlina: Head north on Bedford Street, then hang a left on Christopher and walk west to Hudson. It's a short, lovely stretch — notice the townhouses and the way the streetlights hit the old brick. Arrive at Osteria Carlina on time; they're small and they will give your table away.

02Dinner

West Village · $$$ · Northern Italian restaurant

Turin-born, West Village-adopted: Osteria Carlina is the kind of intimate pasta spot where exposed brick and low light do half the romantic heavy lifting before the food even arrives. Order the agnolotti del plin, and if you're feeling splurgy, say yes to the tableside truffle shaving on the angel hair — it's theatrical in the best possible way. No cocktails here (wine, beer, and vermouth only), which is exactly why you started at CARTA.

455 Hudson St, New York, NY 10014

~5 min walk (0.2 mi). From Osteria Carlina to Milk Bar: Walk south on Hudson and turn left on Christopher Street — Milk Bar is just a few blocks east. This is peak West Village strolling territory, so slow down and take the long way if the night is warm.

03Dessert

West Village · $$ · Dessert shop · Bakery

Don't overthink the ending — duck into Milk Bar on Christopher Street, grab two Cereal Milk soft serves with Cornflake Crunch, and wander. Christina Tosi's cult-favorite dessert shop is genuinely the best grab-and-go sweet finish in the neighborhood, and there's something undeniably fun about ending a grown-up dinner with something this playful. The whole detour takes ten minutes and somehow becomes the part of the night you'll quote back to each other.
