Start with the gambas al ajillo and let the wine director's Greek whites do the work. It's intimate without trying too hard, which is exactly the energy you want for the first hour.
~13 min walk (0.7 mi). Walking from CARTA to Osteria Nonnino, you'll drift north on Bedford and pick up Hudson Street — keep your eyes up for the classic West Village streetscape where the grid breaks and the blocks get narrow and crooked. That disorientation is a feature, not a bug.

Osteria Nonnino is the warm, close-set, low-lit Italian corner room that earns its regulars one tableside moment at a time. Order the bucatini cacio e pepe — it arrives in a hollowed Pecorino wheel — and let the tiramisu get finished right in front of you. Go for the pasta, skip the pizza, and snag a table in the main dining room where the atmosphere actually lives.
~10 min walk (0.5 mi). From Osteria Nonnino, head south on Hudson toward West 4th — the walk to Claude Bakery takes you through some of the prettiest residential blocks in the neighborhood. Note: Claude closes by 6–7pm depending on the day, so time dinner accordingly or save this stop for an earlier outing. If the bakery's shuttered, a gelato from a nearby spot on Bleecker makes a fine substitute.

Claude Bakery is a West Village institution reborn under new ownership with a serious Parisian viennoiserie program — think Isigny butter, laminated dough, and a pain au chocolat that earns the walk. Grab a slice of Manhattan blackout cake for the road and take it to a stoop or a quiet block; there are only a few tables inside, and honestly, the West Village streets at night are half the point.
