A date plan

Cornelia St. Italian, Then Cereal Milk, West Village

Date · West Village · Romantic

An ivy-draped garden dinner on Cornelia Street, a pre-dinner glass of natural wine around the corner, and a playful soft-serve walk to close the night — this is the West Village date that earns a third date.

01Drinks

West Village · $$$ · Wine bar · Cocktail bar

Start at WEST10WEST, a sliver of a wine bar on West 10th where the lighting does more for romance than most restaurants manage all night. Order a glass of something orange and natural, graze on a small plate or two, and let the conversation find its pace. This is the kind of place that makes the night feel easy without making it feel casual.

242 W 10th St Storefront 2, New York, NY 10014

~5 min walk (0.2 mi). From WEST10WEST to Palma, you're walking a few dreamy West Village blocks — cut down West 10th toward Bleecker, hang a left on Cornelia Street, and let the cobblestones do their thing. This strip is one of the best-looking blocks in the city; slow down.

02Dinner

West Village · $$$ · Italian restaurant · Bar

Palma has been holding down Cornelia Street since 2001, and the ivy-covered garden in the back is one of the most genuinely romantic rooms in the city — not in a try-hard way, in a "this is actually beautiful" way. The housemade pasta is the move, and the tables are spaced far enough apart that you're not narrating your date to the couple next to you. Request the garden when you book; it's worth asking twice.

28 Cornelia St, New York, NY 10014

~3 min walk (0.2 mi). After dinner, head back up toward Christopher Street for Milk Bar. It's a quick stroll north through the heart of the Village — follow the brownstone-lined side streets rather than 7th Ave if you want to keep the mood.

03Dessert

West Village · $$ · Dessert shop · Bakery

Wrap the night with a stop at Milk Bar for the Cereal Milk soft serve — it tastes exactly like the milk left in the bowl after a childhood bowl of cereal, and somehow that is deeply charming. Grab a slice of Milk Bar Pie for good measure, then take it outside and wander. The whole stop takes ten minutes and becomes the detail you'll both remember.
