Order a glass of something orange and natural, graze on a small plate or two, and let the conversation find its pace. This is the kind of place that makes the night feel easy without making it feel casual.
~5 min walk (0.2 mi). From WEST10WEST to Palma, you're walking a few dreamy West Village blocks — cut down West 10th toward Bleecker, hang a left on Cornelia Street, and let the cobblestones do their thing. This strip is one of the best-looking blocks in the city; slow down.

Palma has been holding down Cornelia Street since 2001, and the ivy-covered garden in the back is one of the most genuinely romantic rooms in the city — not in a try-hard way, in a "this is actually beautiful" way. The housemade pasta is the move, and the tables are spaced far enough apart that you're not narrating your date to the couple next to you. Request the garden when you book; it's worth asking twice.
