Cocktails, Dinner, and Soft Serve, West Village

Hangout · West Village · Fun & Playful · $$

A fun, low-key West Village evening that kicks off with whimsical cocktails at a James Beard–winning bar, settles in for hearty pub fare with great atmosphere, and finishes with a walk-and-wander dessert stop.

01Drinks & Games

West Village · $$$ · Cocktail bar · Bar

Katana Kitten is the kind of bar that makes you feel like you stumbled into the best party you weren't invited to — in the best way. Grab stools at the bamboo bar upstairs and order the Hinoki Martini, which is exactly as good as everyone says it is. The izakaya-meets-Americana vibe is instantly fun, and the bartenders actually know what they're doing.

531 Hudson St, New York, NY 10014

~2 min walk (0.1 mi). Walking from Katana Kitten to The Warren, you'll cruise a few blocks down Hudson Street and cut over to Christopher — keep your eyes peeled for the classic West Village townhouses and the occasional surprise garden gate. This is one of the prettiest stretches in the city, especially after dark.

02Dinner

West Village · Gastropub · Bar

The Warren is a warmly lit, no-fuss gastropub on Christopher Street that hits the right notes for a group dinner — it's lively without being chaotic, and the menu of oysters, steaks, and hearty bar fare means everyone at the table finds something to fight over. The amber lighting and brick-and-wood interior make it feel like a proper neighborhood spot, not a tourist trap. Order oysters to start and let the conversation do the rest.

131 Christopher St, New York, NY 10014

~4 min walk (0.2 mi). From The Warren to Milk Bar on Christopher Street, you're barely moving — just follow Christopher a couple of blocks east. The street gets a little more animated as you head toward the Village proper, so soak it in.

03Dessert

West Village · $$ · Dessert shop · Bakery

Christina Tosi's West Village outpost is the perfect cap to a group night out — get the Cereal Milk soft serve with Cornflake Crunch and a slice of Milk Bar Pie, then spill back onto the sidewalk. It takes ten minutes and somehow becomes the part of the evening everyone references for weeks. Fair warning: the Cereal Milk is polarizing, which makes it even more fun with a group.
